FIRE
When the fire alarm goes off, the Library must be evacuated. Evacuation is primarily a precautionary measure, but it is also one that must not be ignored. If the alarm is just a test, the fire alarm system will state that a test is in progress. If the alarm sounds and does not indicate a test, we evacuate the building.
If the fire alarm sounds, and it is not a test:
Our fire alarm system sends a signal directly to Campus Security. They will notify the Fire Department. The Fire Department arrives within a few minutes of the alarm sounding. No one is to re-enter the building unless authorized to do so by the Fire Department.

If the fire alarm sounds, and it is not a test:
- The elevators will be out of service.
- Staff should gather at the Circulation desk, then move to clear and check the building, if that is their role.
- Unless you are a designated fire warden, or a supervisor has asked for your assistance, please leave the building right away.
- The staff member assigned to the Circulation desk locks the cash register and brings the keys.
- Do not place yourself in jeopardy. Meet outside and wait for instructions from your supervisor.
- When the all clear is given, staff must enter the building first and proceed to the main desks before patrons are allowed back in.
